How we make money

Solar or Not is free to use. We plan to pay for it with referral fees: if you follow a partner link from our site and request installer quotes or buy a product, the partner may pay us. You pay nothing extra.

What this never changes

• The calculator's math and verdict. They come from the same code and data whether or not a partner pays us, and we tell people “solar is not worth it” when that is the answer.
• Your privacy. We never pass your address, bill or email to a partner.
• Our ask. We never collect your phone number and never pass your details to anyone. If you request quotes on a partner's site, that partner may pay us a referral fee.

Where our price averages come from

Our installed-price and battery-price averages come from EnergySage's public price pages. We have no agreement with EnergySage. If we join its referral program we will keep using the same figures, and each one links to its source on the results page.

How to spot a partner link

Pages with a partner link show a short notice right above it, and each partner button is marked “Paid link”. Links that are not partner links, such as the plain link to EnergySage we show until a partnership is approved, are labelled as such.

Our partners

We have no partner agreements yet, so no link on this site earns us anything today.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides (opens in a new tab) explain why we tell you this.
