Estimates, not advice

Solar or Not gives estimates based on public data, averages and assumptions that we show on every results page. It is not financial, tax, legal or engineering advice, and it is not a quote. Your real costs, production, rates and savings will differ. Before you sign anything, get written quotes, read your utility's current tariff, and talk to a tax professional about your own situation.

No guarantees

We work to keep the data correct and current, but rates, rules and incentives change, and the underlying data (aerial imagery, weather models, tariff tables) can be wrong or out of date. The site is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for decisions you make based on it.

Fair use

Use the calculator for your own home or to help someone with theirs. Don't scrape it, overload it, or try to get around its rate limits. We may block traffic that does.

Google data

Roof data and the roof drawing in your report come from Google's Solar API, and the satellite photo from Google Maps. Using them also means accepting the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service (opens in a new tab) and the Google Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab).
